Urinary Tract Infection (UTIs)

Urinary Tract infections are usually bacterial or fungal infection. This is more common in females compared to males. UTI can happen either in your lower tract (urethra and bladder) or upper tract (kidney and ureters). UTI in the upper tract is considered more severe.

Common Symptoms

  • Burning Sensation when you urinate
  • Strong and persistent urge to urinate
  • Passing frequent but small amount of urine
  • Strong or strange-smelling urine
  • Cloudy, Red, Dard Coloured urine
  • Pain in the back or lower abdomen
  • Pelvic pain in women/girls
  • Rectal pain in men/boys

Types of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Treatment:

There are three types of UTI based on body parts. Each body part has some more specific symptoms.

Causes

There are multiple causes which can lead to UTI in kids.

  • Some urinary abnormalities – when the urine is unable to go out of the system and it goes back to the urethra
  • Abnormally developed from birth
  • Blockages in Urinary tract
  • Weak immune system
  • Previous history of UTI

How to Prevent It

  • Drink plenty of water, fluids (at least 8 -10 glasses a day)
  • Wipe from front to back to prevent bacteria in the anal region
  • Do not hold urine for a longer duration
  • Talk to your doctor for any difficulty or discomfort in passing urine or emptying your bowel
